He studied under Swedish modernist painter Otte Sköld before traveling to Paris for further study in the late 1930s. His work frequently centered on the landscapes and people of northern Sweden.

Wagnstedt was particularly interested in documenting traditional working life as it disappeared from the region. Among his recurring subjects were timber floaters and the men who worked along northern Sweden's rivers. Late in his life, he documented the final period of timber floating on the Pite River. He also completed a number of public artworks and architectural commissions in Sweden.

Details

✓ Original oil painting on panel
✓ Hannes Wagnstedt (Swedish, 1906–1980)
✓ Signed lower right
✓ 20th century
✓ Swedish river and working-life subject
✓ Sourced in Sweden
✓ Presented in a vintage gilt-toned frame
✓ Ready to hang

Measurements

Framed: Approximately 19.7 × 22.8 inches

Condition

Good vintage condition with minor surface wear noted by the auction house and age-related wear consistent with its age.
