Förvår
Förvår
An original 1934 oil painting by Swedish artist Ernst Söderberg (1889–1967), depicting the countryside at the threshold of spring. A winding pale road cuts through fields of ochre, russet and emerging green toward distant farm buildings and deep blue hills, while a restless gray sky stretches across the horizon.
The original Swedish title, Förvår, refers to the earliest transition from winter into spring—a fitting title for a landscape caught between dormant earth and the first return of color. Signed and dated 1934, the painting is presented in its substantial vintage wood frame and was sourced in Sweden.

Why We Chose It
We loved the unusual moment of the season captured here—the landscape hasn't quite become spring. Russet earth, patches of fresh green and remnants of winter sit beneath a wonderfully dramatic blue-gray sky. The winding road and tiny red buildings give the large landscape just enough structure while Söderberg's loose, expressive brushwork keeps it feeling remarkably modern.
