Grazing at Low Tide
An original Scandinavian oil painting by Mark Osman Curtis (1879–1959), signed under his pseudonym Aage Wang, depicting cattle scattered across a broad coastal meadow. Soft yellow-green grasses stretch toward a lavender-gray horizon, with loosely painted cows emerging across the open landscape beneath a quiet, expansive sky.
The tidal meadow and cattle are especially characteristic of Curtis's work under the Aage Wang name. Sourced in Sweden and presented in a vintage gilt frame.
About the Artist
Mark Osman Curtis (1879–1959) was a Scottish-born painter who spent most of his working life in Denmark. Historical accounts indicate that he arrived in Denmark around 1900 and by the late 1910s was selling his paintings through Copenhagen art dealers and auctions. Curtis was famously private and worked under numerous pseudonyms, including Aage Wang, Th. Friis, V. Birkholm and H. Bjardan.
Under the name Aage Wang, Curtis became particularly associated with pastoral landscapes featuring cattle, villages and tidal meadows. Historical research has connected the Aage Wang name specifically with landscapes from Saltholm, the low-lying Danish island near Copenhagen known for its open grazing land. His cattle paintings were already appearing on the Copenhagen market by 1920, making this pastoral subject particularly characteristic of his work.
Curtis's work continues to appear internationally at auction under both his own name and his various pseudonyms. His paintings have been handled by houses including Bruun Rasmussen, and his auction record includes Summer Days, sold at Christie's South Kensington in 2013.

Why We Chose It
The color first caught our attention — pale yellow-green pasture set against that hazy lavender horizon — but the story behind the signature made it even better. Cattle grazing across tidal meadows became one of Curtis's characteristic subjects under the Aage Wang name, making this little landscape particularly representative of his work.
