About the Artist

Wood Gaylor (1883–1957) was an American modernist painter associated with the New York art world of the early twentieth century. Known especially for his colorful, often densely populated scenes of artists, social gatherings, and everyday life, his work developed a distinctive modernist style rooted in simplified forms and expressive color.

Gaylor exhibited during his lifetime and his work is represented in American museum collections. This painting comes from the estate of Wood Gaylor and his wife, artist Adelaide Lawson Gaylor.
