Jean-Frédéric Schweckler (1888–1962) was a Swiss-born French-American painter who emigrated to the United States in the 1920s and later settled in Locust Valley, New York. A widely traveled artist, Schweckler painted throughout South America during the 1930s and extensively in Mexico during the 1950s, capturing landscapes, towns, architecture, and everyday life.

Tamazunchale appears repeatedly within Schweckler’s documented Mexican work. A related painting, The Fruit Market in Tamazunchale, bears a stamp from the 1956 Salon des Artistes Français exhibition, further establishing the region as an important subject within his body of work.
